A heart’s egg (Draconic: oucor) is a rare artefact resembling a dragon’s egg, but much smaller – around the size of a quail’s egg. Made in pairs, a heart’s egg allows two creatures to commune in a basic way. When one person holds the egg in their fist and thinks of the owner of the other egg, the egg’s twin pulses in time with the heartbeat of the first owner. As long as the owner of the second egg has it on their person, they will feel the pulse, though no other information can be transmitted this way.
Scholars say that heart’s eggs were traditional wedding gifts during the height of the Dragonborn‘s now lost empire, which explains why they may still be found many centuries later – they must have been made in great numbers. Still, like all Dragonborn artefacts, the surviving Dragonborn are loathe to give them up without good reason. An outsider would only be given a heart’s egg when dire circumstances make it prudent, or as a sign of great love or trust.
